Emmert - Homer

HOMER  EMMERT

Source: Waveland Independent, Waveland, Montgomery County, Indiana 14 December 1905

Many people will remember Homer Emmert who fired on the Midland and lived here some years ago. He and a brother, Burge, moved to California where they worked at the blacksmith business at Bakersfield. It seems that they had been away from home looking for work and were beating their way back on the Southern Pacific. They were put off at Strathearn and were seen to go into camp near the water tank. The next morning they were found dead near the track with their heads crushed. It is supposed that they boarded another train and were killed by the train men. Both were buried in one grave at Bakersfield where they bore a good reputation. Homer leaves a widow and five children, the youngest but 8 months old and the oldest 11. == kbz
